My family has always been my landscape. Two hundred of us lived within 90 miles of each other. We became our own culture. My great grandmother’s and grandfather’s lineages planted seeds that became the corn rows of the land I lived within as I became “me”.
Nearly all the people I paint come from this landscape. Searching through generations of photos of my family members, I attach to one. Out of hundreds of photos why did I choose this one? Painting, I listen to their stories and then I know why.
